THE Department of Health has reported a further 1,339 new Coronavirus cases in the North of Ireland in the past 24 hours.
That’s a rise of 130 new cases on figures given yesterday for Monday.
There have been a further two deaths (none outside the current reporting period), bringing the Department of Health’s total number of deaths from the virus (mostly in hospital settings) to 2,575.
None of these latest deaths in the last 24 hours was recorded in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.
In the past week, the Department has recorded 7,918 new cases of Coronavirus.
There has been a further 104 positive cases in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area, a rise of 31 on numbers given yesterday for Monday.
Over the past seven days there have been a further 578 COVID-19 cases in the Derry and Strabane area.
This means that since the pandemic started in March there have now been 25,546 positive cases within the council boundary.
The rate of infection within the Derry and Strabane Council area has risen slighlty to 382.1 cases per 100,000.
The Department has now recorded a total of 168 Coronavirus deaths within the Derry and Strabane council area to date – the third lowest out of all councils here.
Bed occupancy across all hospitals remains at 105 per cent.
There are currently 362 patients in hospitals across the North with Coronavirus.
There are 31 patients being treated in intensive care with 27 patients on ventilators.
The Western Trust reports that 12.36 per cent of beds in Altnagelvin Hospital are COVID-19 occupied with staff treating 42 patients with Coronavirus.
However, none of these patients are currently being treated in Altnagelvin’s ICU for COVID-19.
The hospital is currently running at 4.02 per cent over capacity with beds.
A total of 65 care homes are now dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak with a further 870 concluded Coronavirus outbreaks in care homes.
A total of 13 out of 69 residential care homes in the Western Trust area are still dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak.
