Mayor of Derry Alderman Graham Warke

THE Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Alderman Graham Warke, has today warmly welcomed news that three years funding has been secured from the Mental Health Support Fund to enable the Community Crisis Intervention Service to continue operating in the Derry and Strabane District Council area.

This is part of a £24 million grant package made available by the Department of Health to support Mental Health projects.

Speaking following the announcement over the weekend, Mayor Warke said the news was hugely positive and recognition of the need for the service in the North West.

He said he was delighted that the Department had stepped up to provide the funding needed to allow the essential service to continue for the next three years.

Mayor Warke said securing funding for the service was one of his key objectives during his Mayoral year and he praised the work carried out by the CCIS in offering compassionate care for those in crisis.

Concluding Mayor Warke said: “While this is a hugely positive step I urge all our partners across the sector to support the establishment of a permanent service here in the North West and as a Council we will continue to lobby for this support going forward.”
