‘Iron Man’ Danny Quigley

IT is just 24 hours until Danny Quigley’s reaches the final stages of his gruelling Iron Man challenge.

And the public have responded fantastically to Danny’s effort and so far have donated £48,303 and counting to his GoFundMe page!

It has been a tough week for Danny with sore limbs, aching body but he has continued with his challenge to raise vital funds for local charities.

But the ends is in sight for Danny when he finihes his ten day challenged today, Sunday, August 29.

Here is Danny’s story: “My Father died of suicide 10 years ago today, he was a model father and my teacher. His passion for sports and motivation to push himself to his physical limits have lived on in me.

“In the 10 years since his death I have remembered him and carried on his memory in different ways;

“I’ve opened a gym 4 years ago which has cultivated a community of like minded people that put their fitness and mental well-being first, with the help of the Bogside and Brandywell Health Forum we’ve held “The Jog in the Bog” a charity 5k run through the Bogside, in his memory every year we raise 100’s for mental well-being charities.

“As it’s his 10th anniversary I’ve wanted to remember him especially this year, in a way that is true to his character and in a way that challenges myself.

“With much nervousness and much excitement I’m glad to announce that I have begun training for a 10 day Ironman challenge.

“For those of you that don’t know what an iron man is it’s a triathlon that consists of a 2.4 mile swim (3.9K), 112 mile bike (180.2K), and a 26.2 mile run (42.2K). 10 consecutive Iron Man triathlon’s in 10 days.

“It’s going to be a huge undertaking but with the right support I’ll be able to get there. All money raised will go towards PIETA house and The Bogside Brandywell Health Forum.

“From now until August when the 10 day Iron Man challenge begins I will be blogging, vlogging and keeping a diary of my training regime to give you all insight into challenge.

“I will need your help though.

“I would like to extend an open invitation to anyone who would like to be part of a much needed team to help me to my goals.

“Support like physios/doctors/chiropractors/podiatrists etc anyone who feels like they could offer me some help in getting through.

“Please reach out to me and our growing team.”
