Six arrested over incicdent at McGinley’s filling station in Derry

DETECTIVES in Derry have arrested six people following an incident in the Buncrana Road area on Tuesday afternoon, August 17.

All six are being held at the PACE custody suite at Strand Road police station for questioning.

Police received a report around 12:40pm of a group of men fighting in the forecourt of McGinley’s a filling station on the Buncrana Road.

Officers responded and attended the scene and six people have been arrested on suspicion of a number of offences.

At least two men were arrested inside the forecourt shop.

One member of staff was seen on footage circulating on social media being slapped across the face during the incident.

It was also reported a number of vehicles had been involved in a collision at the location.

A dark coloured BMW struck a small four door head on, spinning it around on the road outside the petrol station.

A woman was seen quickly pulling her child from a rear seat of the struck car to safety in the forecourt of the station.

During the incident, a number of men were seen running near the scene, including one man carrying a pitchfork.

The Buncrana Road remains closed at this time.

Detectives would appeal to anyone who was in the area and witnessed the incident or who has any information which could assist our enquiries to contact them in Strand Road on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
