SINN Féin Councillor Conor Heaney has welcomed confirmation that the first meeting of Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Working Group on Irish Unity will take place this Monday, July 26.
The group was established following the passing of a motion proposed by the Foyleside representative in May.
Said Cllr Heaney: “This will be a good opportunity for us to discuss how our Council can prepare, plan and consult on the possibility of constitutional change in Ireland.
“We will also explore how we can collaborate with the working group established by Donegal County Council and other local authorities across the north.
“The working group will make recommendations to council’s Governance & Strategic Planning committee in the coming months which will inform wider engagement with our constituents in the time ahead.”
