Detectives granted more time to question Katie Brankin murder suspect

Police cordon off scene where Katie Brankin was stabbed to death

Detectives from PSNI’s Major Investigation Team, investigating the murder of 37 year old Katie Brankin have been granted further time to question a suspect.

Ms Brankin was found stabbed to death at outdoor holiday accommodation on Seacoast Road in Limavady on Monday, July 12.

A senior MIT detective went to a magistrate’s court earlier today where a district judge granted police a further 36 hours to question a 53 year old man arrested on suspicion of her murder.

The victim and the arrested man were said to have beene in a relationship.

Police said earlier today that Ms Brankin was from the Newtownabbey area of Co Antrim.

Scenes of crimes officers spent yesterday combing the area for forensic evidence linked to the murder probe.
