Local singer Rachael O’Connor launches Gander at Centra Limavady with Store Manager, Ruairi McBride

CENTRA and Supervalu are the latest retailers in Limavady to join forces with innovative food waste app, Gander.

Gander is a world first mobile app, developed to help food stores clear significantly more of its reduced to clear, often yellow labelled food items.

The mobile app displays automatically ‘reduced to clear’ food products, has partnered with the Musgrave Group to bring this sustainable technology solution to life in Centra and Supervalu in Limavady.

Gander is unique for this industry as it displays reduced to clear food automatically and in real-time, aligning with the stores POS system, pushing the reduced food products to the mobile app, as they are stickered in-store.

Similarly, when that item is sold it is automatically removed from the app, providing an instant feed of all reductions in-store at any time making it simple and effective for the shopper.

Commenting on the new initiative, Desi Derby Marketing Director for SuperValu and Centra in the North of Ireland says:

“At SuperValu and Centra, we are committed to making changes which will make a real difference.

“By partnering with Gander, we are reinforcing our commitment to ensure that no food is wasted when it is fit for human consumption and our customers in Limavady will now benefit from easier access to reduced price food products.”

Ashley Osborne, Co-Founder of Gander added: “We are pleased to welcome these Limavady stores onboard and see them embrace the benefits of the Gander app, with its ability to link directly to its in-store POS systems.

“More and more retailers are understanding the wider importance of cutting waste; it’s what their customers expect and makes good business sense.

“Our team want to support retailers recognise their shared responsibility to work with both shoppers and supply chain partners to commit to a long-term and sustained reduction in food waste levels.”

Gander recently celebrated the 100k download milestone as it rolls out across the UK and Ireland.

To date, Gander has successfully saved 1.7 million food items from going to waste, equivalent to 1,800 tonnes of CO2 since its launch.

The Gander app can be downloaded via the Apple or Android app stores.
