‘North-South effort needed on Buncrana Road upgrade’

Sinn Fein Foyle MLA Martina Anderson

SINN Féin’s Martina Anderson has called for greater North South co-operation to ensure that vital sewage works are completed on Derry’s Buncrana Road.

The Foyle MLA was commenting after calling for the Minister for Infrastructure Nicola Mallon to co-operate with her southern counterpart on the project due to its importance for the wider development of the area.

Said Ms Anderson: “I have been lobbying NI Water for several years on the need to upgrade the sewage infrastructure on Buncrana Road to facilitate the planned construction of hundreds of new homes and community facilities nearby.

“Given that the Buncrana Road is a key arterial route into Donegal, it is clear that any new sewage upgrades should be developed on a North-South basis.

“This would also facilitate any new housing and economic developments from the border to Bridgend and ultimately save money for departments, north and south.

“I am calling on the Minister for Infrastructure to begin discussions with her southern counterpart, Minister Darragh O’Brien, to explore how resources could be pooled to allow these vital works to begin.”
