Logue: More waste dog bins needed on busy walkway

SINN Féin Councillor Patricia Logue has urged Derry and Strabane Council to redouble their efforts to introduce additional dog waste bins along the busy walkway known as ‘The Line’ which is a continuation of the riverside walkway at Foyle Road.

She made her appeal after complaints from dog owners the waste bin located at the Daisy Field was overflowing this week.

Said Cllr Logue: “Anyone who is about this area regularly will tell you it is always very busy with dog walkers, runners and families out for a daily stroll.

“Sadly, there are those who leave rubbish on the walkway and pet owners who do not pick up their dog waste.

“This week I was contacted by members of the public who were aghast at the number of waste bags at one of the bins at the Daisy Field which is located just before you would be walking out the Line.

“I am calling on the Council to redouble their efforts to provide adequate dog waste bins and litter bins out of the rural part of this walk.

“This is an area I believe we need to be doing everything we can in the times ahead to uplift and improve this walkway.

“It has massive potential particularly the link in with Donegal and we must harness all those opportunities.”
