THE public across the Derry and Strabane Council area are being encouraged to ensure their appliances are officially registered in order to protect themselves and their homes.
Anyone with either new or in-use household appliances can register their appliance with the manufacturer or use registermyappliance.org.uk
By doing so, you will be the first to know if your appliance is on recall and this helps to protect you and keep you safe from any faulty or potentially harmful white goods in your home.
The Association for the Manufacturers of Domestic Electrical Appliances (AMDEA) together with the Office for Product Safety and Standards is raising awareness of the importance of registering appliances to help keep homes safe.
Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Brian Tierney, said: “It’s really important that people get online and register their appliances.
“Taking a few seconds to go through the simple registration process is something that everyone should be taking part in.
“If you are a landlord, it’s important you make sure you have registered the household appliances in the properties you own and if you live in rented accommodation and your landlord hasn’t done this you can do it yourself.
“It provides a peace of mind and that extra layer of protection to know that the appliances within your home are safe and, if there are any issues, you will be the first to know.
“Whether it’s a larger white goods appliance or a smaller one like a toaster or kettle, just remember that any items can cause a fire or an incident that could lead to serious damage.
“Some appliances can be registered up to 12 years old, so have a look on the manufacturer’s website for more information or visit registermyappliance.org.uk”
