Sinn Fein Foyle MLA Martina Anderson

THE anticipated creation of thousands of jobs in Derry through City Deal funding must fully involve the community training sector, Sinn Féin MLA Martina Anderson has said.

She commenting after meeting officers from Derry City and Strabane District Council.

Said the Foyle MLA: “It is envisaged that 70% of the 7,000 positions that will be created through the City Deal/Inclusive Growth funding will be filled by local residents.

“I have asked council officers to ensure that representatives from the community training sector are involved in the development of the new skills programmes that are needed to achieve this target.

“This will ensure that the programmes will be tailored where necessary to attract participation from residents in greatest need of employment opportunities.

“In turn, these residents will be able to apply for good, well paid jobs in the emerging sectors which City Deal funding is focussed on nurturing.”
