SDLP Foyle MLA Mark H Durkan

THE SDLP’s Mark H Durkan has welcomed confirmation from the Department for Infrastructure to accept his proposal to reduce the speed limit on the Cloghole Road from 60mph to 30mph.

In doing so, Mr Durkan hopes it will improve safety for residents and road users alike.

Said the Foyle MLA: “I had been contacted by a number of residents who are concerned at the speed at which traffic travels through the Cornmill Park area and the risk it poses to young children living here and other road users.

“I’m pleased that the Department for Infrastructure have agreed to grant my request to reduce the speed limit in this area.

“The Clooney Road which dissects the development, will be reduced from the National Speed Limit of 60mph to 30mph, reflecting the fact that this is a growing residential area.

“While the department cannot provide an indicative time for the implementation of this speed reduction, I have been assured that this will go ahead in the very near future.

“I hope this will provide residents in particular with peace of mind and improve overall road safety in the area.”
