Anderson intervenes over deferral of Muff greenway project

Sinn Fein Foyle MLA Martina Anderson

SINN Féin’s Martina Anderson has written to the Chief Executive of Derry City and Strabane District Council John Kelpie to express her concerns at the deferral of the final planning decision on the Muff greenway project.

Said the Foyle MLA: “I have written to the Chief Executive of Derry City and Strabane District Council following the astounding decision taken last week at the Council planning committee to defer the final planning decision on the greenway until after a site visit is undertaken.

“This decision, in my opinion, demonstrates unacceptable short-sightedness given the implications it could have on drawing down multi million pound funding for this greenway.

“I find it astonishing that some Councillors at the committee meeting put the brakes on this application after six years of it being in development and local planners recommending approval.

“This decision to delay has the potential to derail this entire project so it is at least positive that Council aimed to hold the site visit urgently.

“Given the immense urgency, I have underlined the importance of tabling the issue again at the next planning meeting on April 12 so that this decision can be revisited as soon as possible.”
