Sinn Fein Councillor Patricia Logue

SINN Féin Councillor Patricia Logue has welcomed news that work to install a handrail is now underway at one of the busiest pathways in Creggan which links Demesne Avenue and Eastway/New Road.

Said Councillor Logue said: “Back in December of last year I received confirmation from the Housing Executive (H.E) that work was to take place on this pathway early in the New Year.

“And that they would install a new safety handrail. It’s great to see this week that the work is now underway.

“The pathway which goes from Demesne Avenue down onto Eastway /New Road is one of the busiest in the area.

“The Creggan community have highlighted safety concerns regarding this walkway. It has a very steep gradient leading to a very busy roadway.

“This walkway is also used regularly by shoppers and school children going to the local shopping centre and schools.

“It can be particularly hazardous when slippery.

“I will continue to endeavour to try to also get a number of lights on the path and will keep residents informed if there is a positive outcome to my requests.”
