THE SDLP’s Mark H Durkan has welcomed the launch of a new 20mph speed limit outside a number of Derry schools.

This is part of a drive to increase safety by Minister Nichola Mallon.

These include:

Culmore Primary School

Foyle College

Ebrington Primary and Nursey

St Paul’s Primary School

Model Primary School

Mr Durkan has worked with the local community to press for the introduction of a lower speed limit to protect local children on these busy routes.

Said the Foyle MLA: “Parents, pupils and staff at these schools know how busy the road can be in the mornings and during afternoon pickups.

“I am delighted that we’ve been able to secure a new 20mph limit under my colleague Minister Nichola Mallon’s new scheme.

“I have no doubt that the launch of the reduced speed limits will enhance safety for the entire school community.

“Motorists in the area should make themselves aware of the new limit and slow down when passing.

“This is an excellent initiative that we’ve been working for a long time to secure.

“I’m glad that the SDLP has been able to deliver for our community.”
