DERRY City and Strabane District Council’s Leisure Services have launched an expert led online programme designed to improve your health and well being in just four weeks.

The 4 Pillars series, in conjunction with CORE NI, can be accessed online at derrystrabaneleisure.com/4pillars/ and focuses on lifestyle changes to sleep, nutrition, physical activity and mindset.

The program uses a range of delivery techniques aimed towards general leisure centre members to help improve their overall health and well being.

Sports Development Manager at Derry City and Strabane District Council, Ryan Porter, explained the format of the programme.

“The experience of lockdown and not accessing leisure services has had a challenging impact on many people’s health,” he said.

“The 4 Pillars series aims to guide users through small changes to their routine that can have a significant impact on their mental health and well being.

“The website will feature pre-recorded videos of expert guest speakers on Mondays and Wednesdays and a free live webinar through Zoom every Friday with a recap of the week and a live question and answer session.

“The changes and tips suggested can set you on the path to a healthier and more fulfilling lifestyle far beyond the four weeks of the programme.”

Week One of the programme begins on March 15th and focuses on sleep with a presentation by Gary Wallace, Physical Performance Coach for the Northern Ireland Senior Men’s team and a live Q and A on Friday March 19th.

Wellbeing and Mindset is the focus of Week Two with expert Gareth Fox who will present a video on Emotional Intelligence and Emotional Control before a Q and A on Friday March 26th on why we feel the way we do.

Week Three, beginning Monday 29th March 2020, will feature an introduction to nutrition with Sarah Connolly who will host a diet focused Q and A on the Friday.

The final week, beginning April 5th, will see Gary Wallace return with advice on training, exercise and movement before the Q and A will focuses on tailoring a training plan to suit your needs.

The videos for the programme are all accessible at derrystrabaneleisure.com/4pillars/ where Zoom links to the Q and As will also be available.
