Anderson: Progress on resolving Creggan reservoir planning dispute

PROGRESS is being made on resolving a number of planning issues related to the Creggan reservoirs which are delaying major building developments in the city, Sinn Féin’s Martina Anderson has revealed.

The Foyle MLA said she was hopeful that negotiations between a range of stakeholders would soon reach a successful outcome and remove a blockage to key strategic projects including the expansion of Magee and Fort George.

Said Ms Anderson: “I am pleased that talks between the management of Creggan Country Park and council on the future management of the reservoir are making steady progress.

“I am also confident that discussions between the Department for Infrastructure, council and Department for Communities will ensure funding is in place to allow safety works to be carried out at the reservoirs.

“Progress on these issues will hopefully see the lifting of Department for Infrastructure planning objections for the new Glenview Community Centre, Fort George developments and Magee expansion in the coming months which will in turn provide massive socio-economic benefits for the entire city.

“I will continue to work with all stakeholders to bring this process to a successful conclusion as soon as possible.”
