Sinn Fein Waterside Councillor Christopher Jackson

SINN Féin Councillor Christopher Jackson has expressed disappointment about the lack of progress on the delivery of play facilities in Currynierin.

Said Councillor Jackson: “At this week’s Environment and Regeneration meeting I expressed my disappointment about the lack of progress on the delivery of play facilities in Currynierin.

“Playboard NI gave a presentation to the committee on the ‘state of play’ of play provision right across the council area detailing the gaps in provision and areas where the facilities are not up to standard.

“We already know that the facilities in Currynierin are not fit for purpose and I have worked with the local community and the Council to develop a plan to address this deficit.

“We have planning approval for a new play park in Currynierin and it has been ‘spade ready’ now for a number of years yet we are no further forward in terms of identifying funding.

“This isn’t acceptable, the Council have raised the expectations of the local community and what we need to see now is delivery on the ground.

“Sinn Féin is fully committed to addressing the gaps in play provision right across our council area.

“This should start by identifying and securing funding for the projects that we have already been working on.
