Anderson: City Deal boost for Derry’s tourism sector

Sinn Fein Foyle MLA Martina Anderson

THE recently announced City Deal funding for Derry has fast tracked the development of a new state of the art DNA civic museum at Ebrington, Sinn Féin’s Martina Anderson has said.

Said the Foyle MLA: “I have been working with council and Executive departments for a number of months to secure funding for the new DNA museum at Ebrington which will tell the story of Derry using a strong maritime theme.

“Up to last week funding had been committed from The Executive Office, Department for Finance and Department for Communities along with the Heritage Lottery Fund and our local council.

“A portion of the recently announced City Deal funding has now completed the funding package which will allow the council to work towards a 2022 start date for the project.

“None of this would have been possible without the allocation of City Deal funding to Derry by Finance Minister Conor Murphy and the support of other Sinn Féin ministers in the Executive.

“The new museum will be a game changer for the tourism sector in Derry and is an early sign of the impact the City Deal monies will have on the local economy in the years to come.”
