DUP Foyle MLA Gary Middleton

DUP Foyle MLA and Junior Executive Minister Gary Middleton has welcomed the progress this week on the city deal for the North West.

The City Deal is a commitment that was secured through the Confidence and Supply Agreement signed between the DUP and the Conservative Party in 2017.

Welcoming the deal Mr Middleton said: “This is a very significant time for Londonderry and the wider north west region.

“We have come a very long way since the commitment was made within the Confidence and Supply Agreement on City Deals in Northern Ireland and marks an important milestone in that journey.

“This investment from the Executive, from the UK Government and from the Council can make a huge difference to the region.

“This can provide a real springboard for success in the City and surrounding areas, but will deliver benefits right across Northern Ireland.

“In particular, the plans to focus on technology areas such as robotics, AI and precision medicine can place us at the cutting edge, not just in the United Kingdom, but on the world stage.

“It was vital that leverage was used to progress City Deals and the legacy of ensuring a commitment was made in 2017 will be felt across this region for years if not decades to come.”
