Mullan: Dodds must support Derry ‘wet pubs’

SINN Féin’S Karen Mullan has contacted the Economy Minister Dianne Dodds about difficulties faced by ‘wet pubs’ in Derry around criteria applied to funding for the financial COVID support package.

Said the Foyle MLA: “I have been contacted by a number of pub owners in the city who are extremely disappointed and frustrated by the criteria applied to the funding support package rolled out last week.

“When the package was announced it was very much welcomed by the owners of what are now known as ‘wet pubs’ who have been particularly hard hit.

“Some of these premises have never been able to re-open and most have been mainly closed.

“It now appears those ‘wet pubs’ who opened for a short period and tried to diversify with a vast reduction in customer turnover may not be able to avail of the scheme.

“I have written to the Economy Minister to ask that all ‘wet pubs’ are supported.”
