Eastwood: No state operative should be above the law

SDLP leader Colum Eastwood

SDLP Leader Colum Eastwood has expressed his anger that changes to the controversial Covert Human Intelligence Sources (Criminal Conduct) Bill were rejected in the House of Commons last night.

Said the Foyle MP: “It is a disgrace that changes to The Covert Human Intelligence Sources Bill were rejected by the Tories last night.

“Some changes were a ban on ‘spy cops’ from committing serious crimes such as murder and rape, as well as a rejection of the use of children as covert operatives.

“Claire Hanna and I voted to keep these changes which came from the House of Lords.

“Changes which will defend trade unions, protect human rights from being violated by operatives and safeguard children from being used as spies by British state agencies.

“No state operative should be above the law, especially when they commit such heinous crimes.”
