A recent survey conducted by Derry City and Strabane District Council has found that 100% of users were happy with the Council’s Irish language services.

Of those surveyed 100% of users indicated that they were ‘happy’ or ‘very happy’ with the service with 97% of service users stating that they would use the service again.

95% of those surveyed said they would recommend the service to others.

Erin Hamilton, Irish Language Officer with Derry City and Strabane District Council, thanked all those who participated in the survey and welcomed the positive feedback received.

She said: “Despite the challenges presented by the global pandemic this year, the Council is committed to ensuring an almost seamless continuation of its existing language services and we are extremely grateful to the Irish language community for the generosity with which they have embraced the changes to the service.

“We are using all of the available technology and our social media platforms to maintain access to our services in Irish and are delighted with the support we receive from our local Irish language community. We are also very grateful to Foras na Gaeilge (The Irish Language Agency) which jointly supports this service.”

Irish speakers can avail of a range of services in the Irish language from Derry City and Strabane District Council and the Council is continually growing the range of services offered.

The Council is committed to ensuring that Irish speakers are granted equality of opportunity when choosing to access information and services in the medium of Irish.

As interest in the Irish language continues to increase, and as the growth in Irish medium education continues apace, the Council is keen to develop its Irish language services in order to support the growing Irish language community across the city and district.
