Anderson: New Leafair advice services welcome

SINN Fein’s Martina Anderson has welcomed confirmation that the Leafair Well-Being Village is expanding its welfare advice services on offer to the local community.

Said the Foyle MLA: “The COVID 19 pandemic and subsequent economic downturn has had a massive impact on working class families and people living in areas suffering from chronic levels of economic deprivation.

“This new welfare advice service in Leafair will help bring additional capacity and reduce existing pressures on other hard working community organisations in the area, especially as 4,000 new houses are planned for Skeoge over the coming years

“With the vaccination programme ongoing, and as we turn to face the economic legacy of COVID19, it cannot be the case that those who were already struggling are pushed to the back of the queue for future opportunities.

“People are now struggling more than ever, and Sinn Féin Ministers have been working tirelessly to ensure that the limited financial resources of the Executive are utilised to protect lives and livelihoods.

“We need political representatives from across the spectrum to work with local community groups to help ensure that workers and families across Derry are not left behind.”
