Moves to address Coshquin flooding – Cooper

Sinn Fein Foyleside councillor Mickey Cooper

SINN Féin Councillor Mickey Cooper has welcomed an emerging multi-agency approach to resolve repeated flooding issues in Coshquins Benview Estate during periods of heavy rainfall.

Councillor Cooper said: “In the past few days heavy rainfall has seen flooding issues re-emerge in the Benview area.

“I am grateful that the Housing Executive and Roads Service have agreed to carry out minor works to some of the drainage infrastructure in the area to address some of the problem.

“More importantly I am pleased that the Rivers Agency have agreed to carry out a comprehensive inspection of water flows in the wider area.

“This will finally identify the source of the problem and allow an action plan to be developed to resolve the issue once and for all.

“Even minor flooding can be very worrying for residents as they fear it will get into their homes and gardens.

“I will continue to keep them updated as a work plan emerges to deal with the issues.”
