THE Boss Gloss Studio were voted the winner of the Strabane BID Halloween window-dressing competition, claiming the £1,000 first place prize following a Spooktacular and special online vote.

The Garden Depot finished in second place, winning £500, while Lemonade Boutique took third, winning £250.

It was an epic battle between the top three and other entries which included Eyewear Opticians, Beauty Geek, iVape, Valerie Manning Jewellery and Donna’s Flower Box – with over 6,000 votes cast.

The pumpkins, witches and wizards lit up the windows of those businesses throughout Strabane town to bring a spooky spirit on a very different Halloween this year.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Brian Tierney, congratulated the winners and all who took part.

“A big well done to Boss Gloss Studio, all of our winners and every business who took part in our Halloween window competition.

“We have found ourselves in the most unusual and difficult circumstances this year, and it was fantastic to see our local businesses in Strabane bringing colour and life to our streets as a treat to their customers.”

And it doesn’t stop there as attentions now turn to Christmas!

Businesses across Strabane are being asked to pull out their Christmas trees, baubles, Santa Clauses and tinsel to help bring the festive joy in the Strabane BID Christmas Window competition.

Once again there will be a £1,000 prize for the winner, £500 for second and £250 for third place, and members of the public can be in with a chance to win a £50 gift card by taking a selfie next to their favourite window and sharing on social media.

Kieran Kennedy, Chair of Strabane BID, said the competition was a fun way to bring Christmas colour to Strabane.

“All of our businesses are having to prepare in very different ways for Christmas this year as we all navigate challenges that we never could have imagined.

“This light-hearted competition is a way for Strabane BID to help out some local businesses while also bringing a buzz to the town as the countdown to Christmas gets underway.

“I would encourage all businesses to get involved and I would also ask the public to shop local this festive season and to enjoy the colourful displays.”

Mayor Tierney added: “Straight off the back of this very successful Halloween competition we are inviting businesses across Strabane to now turn their attention to Christmas time and bringing some festive spirit to the streets and their customers.

“Christmas is a hugely important time of year for businesses, and for everyone, and while this year will be really difficult, I would encourage all businesses to get onboard this competition and potentially attract new customers into their store.

“The countdown is on until the big day so I’m looking forward to see the red and white colours and the Santa statues popping up all over Strabane!”

The Christmas window competition will open on Friday 20th November and will run until Christmas Eve. Online voting will open on Monday 30th November, with the winner announced on Monday, 4th January 2021.
