DERRY City and Strabane District Council has confirmed that opening times at Glendermott Road Recycling Centre will be expanded from Monday 5th October.

The change will see the site opened from Monday to Friday at 9.30am until 12pm. The centre will then close for an hour between 12pm and 1pm to facilitate traffic accessing other businesses within the business park.

It will reopen at 1pm until 4.30pm, and then close until 6pm to facilitate pick-ups from the crèche and nursery within the business park.

The centre will then reopen from 6pm to 8pm. Between the daytime hours of 9.30am and 4.30pm up to four cars per hour will be permitted, with a maximum of six cars per hour allowed into the facility from 6pm to 8pm. Access to the centre will be by booking only.

On Saturday the site will operate from 8am to 6pm, while on Sunday opening times will be from 1pm to 5pm – with six cars per hour permitted.

Booking is essential, and no one will gain admission without an appointment. Slots can be booked by calling 02871376590 from Thursday 1st October, with lines open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Please note that access is limited to cars and small vans only. No large vans or trailers will be permitted.

However, Council continues to work on a booking system to facilitate these vehicles, with details available in due course.

Nicola McCool, Council’s Waste Services Manager, said the new opening hours will allow more people to make use of the facility.

“We have been working closely with all relevant authorities to put together a schedule with longer opening hours to meet the demand for Glendermott Road Recycling Centre while also ensuring that the health and safety of the public and staff, and the traffic management within the site, are the top priorities.

“We would ask everyone to please read the opening times carefully and to make sure to call and book a slot in advance to avoid any confusion or a build-up of traffic around the site.

“We appreciate the public’s patience and we are hopeful that the extension of opening hours will be useful to the Glendermott community and those in the surrounding areas.

“We are also continuing to operate our free bulky waste service, which can be booked by visiting the Council website or by calling 02871374107.”
