THE Alley Theatre will bring the live gig experience to the homes of music fans this Culture Night when they stream a music event at the auditorium on Facebook.

‘Music to your Ears’ will feature songs from the album of the same title which was recorded by 28 local male musicians from across Derry and Strabane during the lockdown restrictions.

The participants are all over 55 years of age and the gig on Friday September 18th will also be the launch of the double CD.

“This gig will feature songs from the album including some great classic tracks and a number of newly penned original material relating to lockdown and the past 3 months,” said event facilitator Terry McCafferty /Ronan Doherty.

The ‘Music to your Ears’ project encourages men to engage in the arts regardless of their previous experience and aims to help promote better health and wellbeing – something that has come into sharp focus during the current crisis.

“Working on the album was a great way for those involved to keep active and engaged during the lockdown period and we are delighted to be able to bring some of the songs to a live audience – all be it virtually for now.”

The event is part of a packed programme of events across Derry and Strabane for Culture Night 2020.

The festival will see arts and cultural organisations throughout the island of Ireland open their doors in celebration with a wide variety of free admission events that aim to inspire, enlighten and delight the public.

To ensure the programme can still offer its eclectic mix of visual arts, music, theatre and dance a number of performances have been moved online to Council’s social media channels.

Other programme highlights include a special ‘Off The Beaten Track’ event at Hidden City Café which will offer an evening of good music, food and wine.

The online programme includes a knitting workshop hosted by acclaimed designer Edel Mc Bride, drama from Mockingbird Theatre, storytelling, animation, music, dance, discussions, history and heritage from a host of artists and organisations.
