Derry security alert ends after suspected device declared ‘elaborate hoax’

The PSNI’s commander for Derry City and Strabane Chief Supt Emma Bond

A security alert sparked by the discovery of a suspicious object in Bligh’s Lane in Derry yesterday (Friday, 21st August) has ended.

Police attended the scene, along with ATO who examined the object and have declared it to be an elaborate hoax.

Derry & Strabane District Commander, Chief Superintendent Emma Bond said: “I want to thank the local community for their patience as we dealt with this incident and also for their vigilance.

“If anyone has any information about this incident, I would urge them to call us on 101, and quote reference number 315 of 21/08/20.”
