SINN Féin’s Martina Anderson has welcomed news today that Royal Mail is to extend the opening hours of its Customer Service point at local sorting offices from next month.

As from Tuesday, September 1, the new hours will be: Mon 8am – 10am; Tues 8am – 10am; Weds 8am – 12noon; Thurs 8am – 8pm; Fri 8am – 12noon; Sat 8am – 2pm; and Sun 1pm – 3pm.

Said the Foyle MLA said: “I welcome the news that Royal Mail will extend the opening hours of its Customer Service point at local sorting offices from the 1st September.

“It has been evident over the recent weeks that these offices only being open for two hours a day from 7am-9am has put significant pressure on customers, resulting in frustration and long queues.

“Hopefully these slightly later and extended hours on Wednesdays and Friday will relieve some of those pressures, especially on those who have to travel into the city centre to pick up their parcels.

“I would also like to commend the staff at the Derry sorting office who carried on their sterling and essential work throughout this pandemic, ensuring that citizens were able to access vital postal services.
