Last call for entries in Council Chatbot Competition

DERRY City and Strabane District Council has called on the public to help come up with a catchy name for a new Chatbot service to help with its recycling campaign.

The Chatbot will assist users with helpful information on recycling locally, and is part of an environmental project linking Derry and Strabane with other environmentally conscious areas across the world.

The EMERGREEN project explores ways to enhance approaches to environmental issues and the challenges presented by factors such as long distances, high service delivery costs, shortages in human and material resources, and lack of access to the latest innovations.

Council is working in partnership with four other NPA regions to address concerns around climate change by harnessing emerging technologies to promote the vitally important reduce, reuse, recycle message.

An Amazon Fire Tablet is up for grabs in the Chatbot competition and entries close on Monday July 27, before an online poll will be conducted to choose the final name.

Mayor of Derry and Strabane, Councillor Brian Tierney, called on local people to get behind the campaign and come up with a suitable and creative name for the new Bot.

“The EMERGREEN Project relates directly to Council’s Zero Waste Circular Economy Strategy and we are committed to creating greener communities through developing innovative new ways to help public services tackle environmental issues.

“The new Chatbot service will sit within the Recycling section on the Council website and assist us with providing information to the public about local recycling services.

“I would love to see some witty and creative suggestions for our new BOT, so get your thinking caps on and see if you can do your bit for the local environment and win an Amazon Fire Tablet along the way.”

To enter the competition on Facebook just post your suggested name followed by the hashtag #Namethebot.

You have until Monday 27th July to cast your vote.

The best names will be shortlisted for a special poll to choose the Winning name.
