Fears over installation of gas supply to Cornshell Fields after workers threatened

Sinn Feini Councillor Sandra Duffy

SINN Féin Councillor Sandra Duffy has said there are fears that the installation of gas to homes in Cornshell Fields may be halted.

It comes after a group of up to 15 young people threatened workers trying to stop them stealing plastic safety fencing.

A number of pieces of fencing has been burned in the area in recent days.

Councillor Duffy said: “I like many of the residents I have spoken to are appalled by this incident.

“A group of up to 15 young people threatened workers trying to stop them stealing plastic safety fencing.

“This must have been a very frightening experience for these workers who are just in doing a day’s work and stopping vital safety fencing from being stolen.

“They should be able to work free from threats or harassment.

“I have been campaigning for a long time for a gas supply to this area.

“The last thing we want to see is workers having to leave due to threats and the installation of a gas supply into local homes to stop.

“I have been in contact with the PSNI and the company in relation to these threats,” she added.
