Coronavirus: Five more people in North lose their lives to COVID-19 as toll hits 494

A FURTHER five people have sadly lost their lives to COVID-19, the Department of Health has announced.

It takes their total, mostly comprising of hospital deaths, to 494 to date.

Four of the deaths happened since Tuesday, with the other one now recorded as COVID-19 related.

There has now been a total of 4,439 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the North of Ireland, a rise of 18 since yesterday.

Today’s figures are one of two sets published here.

Each Friday statistics agency Nisra publishes their weekly update.

Those statistics cover all fatalities – hospitals, care homes, hospices and residential addresses – where Coronavirus has been recorded on the death certificate.

By last Friday, May 8, Nisra had recorded 599 Covid-19 related deaths here.

It will report at the end of this week deaths in all settings up to Friday, May 15.

There have been 20 confirmed Coronavirus-related deaths in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area with 163 positive cases for the deadly virus.
