NWRC hosts applicant webinars for GCSE and A–Level students

The Strand Building of the North West Regional College in Derry

NORTH West Regional College will be hosting a series of webinars over the next two weeks, providing information for students interested in applying for courses starting in September 2020 across the college’s five campuses.

Hosted on www.nwrc.ac.uk/applicantwebinar, the sessions will allow prospective students to access information on the courses offered, engage with staff, and find out more about the NWRC learning experience and opportunities.

The first webinar takes place on Friday, May 15, with a webinar hosted by the college’s Department of Health and Sports.

The session which runs for approximately 30 minutes will allow students to discover more about the exciting range of professional and technical qualifications NWRC offers in areas such as Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Sports Science, Coaching and Sports Management.

They will be followed by presentations from the Department of Business, Hospitality and Performing Arts, Department of Training and Skills, Department of Science and Technology, and Training for Success and Apprenticeships.

Conor McGurgan, Marketing and PR Manager at NWRC said: “At this time of year we would normally invite students into our campuses at Strand Road, Springtown, Strabane, Limavady and Greystone.

“However, given the current situation with the Covid-19 lockdown, we designed this series of webinars as students post-16 and post-18 make the biggest educational decisions of their lives.

“At NWRC students can study courses over a range of levels, from Level 1 to Level 6, in Art and Design, Business, Care and Health, I.T., Hospitality and Catering, Media, Science, Sport, Music, Performing Arts. Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy, Early Years, Construction and the Built Environment, Engineering, Administration and Travel and Tourism.

“One year courses at Level 1 and 2, cater for students who want to increase their current GCSE profile. Successful completion of a Level 2 course allows students to progress to a Level 3 course (the equivalent of three A Levels) and on to Higher Education, University or Employment.

“In addition, the apprenticeship route is becoming more attractive for young people. As an apprentice, young people gain nationally recognised qualifications whilst earning a wage, combining practical ‘hands-on’ experience with academic knowledge.

“For students due to receive their A-Levels or Level 3 course grades, NWRC offers a number of Higher Education options from Higher National Diplomas, Higher National Certificates, Foundation Degrees and Higher Level Apprenticeships.

“FE colleges are often the more affordable option, with much lower tuition frees. Students also have to option to live at home, reducing the substantial living and maintenance costs that come with moving away.

“NWRC courses are designed to set you on the right career path for you – whether to prepare you for direct employment, or to progress to University.

“We welcome as many people as possible to join in with our webinars.”

To join the webinar you can register at www.nwrc.ac.uk/applicantwebinar
