Police praise Derry public for adhering to stay-at-home Coronavirus rules

THE PSNI in Derry have praised the public across the city and the council district to sticking to the COVID-19 stay-at-homes.

The streets across the PSNI’s Derry City and Strabane over the past number of weeks have been eerily empty as people stay at home to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus and protect the NHS.

However, there have been a small number of people who have selfishly flouted the lockdown regulations of essential travel only and social distancing which have been introduced to protect the public during this deadly pandemic.

PSNi Derry City and Strabane say on its Facebook page: “Waterside NPT have been out patrolling tonight to ensure everyone’s safety during COVID-19.

“Most of our streets have been empty and we would like to say thank you for playing your part by adhering to the direction given by our government.

“During COVID-19 we are continuing to patrol all business premises.

“If your business is temporarily closed, you should follow the crime prevention advice below:

• Mindful of government health advice, conduct regular security checks of your premises.

• Test and set your alarm and ensure it is fully operational.

• Ensure internal doors, security gates, bollards and fire exit doors are secure.

• Remove high value items into secured locations (if practical).

• Remove cash from the premises and install signage stating all cash or valuables have been removed.
