Cusack commends Minister Mallon on multiple road safety measures

SDLP Councillor Shauna Cusack has commended Minister Mallon and the DFI for road improvement works in the Foyleside constituency.

Said Cllr Cusack: “Year on year I have been asking DFI to improve the condition of the roads and road markings in my Foyleside constituency, particularly around Rosemount and Creggan Road.

2I have made no secret of the serious safety implications of invisible road markings, particularly in the Winter months.

“However, the response was sadly the same while there was no Stormont and no Minister, there was no movement.

“I am delighted that after just a few short weeks in position my party colleague and Department for Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon has shown her commitment to this issue and commenced urgent works to improve our roads.

“Following years of neglect the difference is incredible.

“I am also very proud of the steps she is taking to combat the irresponsible and downright reckless use of phones by thousand of drivers here, something I witness on our roads every day.

“I appreciate there is much to be done but I am confident by the Minister’s early pro active approach that if she is also given the right resources these improvements will be felt not only in my constituency but throughout our City and District.”
