Updated news: Two pipe bomb devices explode outside homes in Derry, say police

POLICE say two pipe bomb devices have been found outside home in the Waterside area of Derry.

The PSNI say that the security alerts at Claw Close has now ended after the objects were examined by ATO.

A police spokesperson said on Thursay night: “Police received a report this morning at 10 30 am of a suspicious object at Claw Close.

“Officers attended and a second object was found nearby.

“Both objects were examined by ATO who found them to be small, exploded pipe bomb devices.

“Reports have since been received of loud bangs between 10 pm and midnight on Wednesday. There have been no reports of injuries but minor damage was caused to the front windows of two houses.

“We would like to thank residents for their patience while this operation was carried out to make the area safe.

“We would appeal to anyone with information or who spotted any suspicious activity in the area to contact detectives at Strand Road CID on the 101 number quoting reference number 473 of January 30, 2020.

“Alternatively, information can be passe anonymously to Crimestoppers on freephone 0800 555 111.”
