A FAMILY from Derry have raised a staggering £35,192 for Altnagelvin Hospital’s neo-natal intensive care unit (NNICU) after the birth of twin girls three years ago.

The huge amount of money is such a huge boost to the nurses and doctors who run the unit for little bundles of joy brought into the world at the Derry hospital.

In the latest fundraising drive, the McLaughlin family have donated almost £8,000 to the NNICU.

The Western Trust says on its Facebook page: “Our Neo Natal Intensive Care Unit in Altnagelvin Hospital has received a generous donation of £7,643.91 from twins Saorlaith and Saoirse and their mum and dad Bob and Michelle McLaughlin.

“The girls also delivered £1,400 of Foyleside vouchers to our nurses before Christmas.

“The family held a fundraising walk and quiz night for the NNICU and a raffle for the nurses.

“Prizes were kindly donated by local business owners.

“This is the fourth donation the McLaughlin family have made to NNICU as a show of appreciation for the great care Saorlaith and Saoirse received during their time there in 2016.

“The family have raised a total of £35,192 for the Unit.”

Well done to the McLaughlin family!
