A vehicle suffers frontal damage in multi vehicle collision

POLICE say that the message of never ever drink and drive is still not getting through to some people in the district.

Last night a woman who police suspected had consumed alcohol was involved in a multi vehicle collision.

Fortunately, no one was seriously injured in the collision but the woman was subsequently arrested and taken into custody for failing to give a road side breath test.

An officer writing on PSNI Foyle’s Facebook page said: “I’m sure most, if not all of you will have noticed an increase in roadside breath tests over the past number of months.

“Despite that, last night we again attended a multi vehicle road traffic collision close to Newtownstewart which occurred as the result of a driver being under the influence of alcohol.

“Thankfully no one was seriously injured however as you can see, things could have ended very differently indeed.

“Whilst speaking with the driver of this vehicle it was clear that she had consumed alcohol.

“She subsequently refused to engage with us and was arrested for failing to provide a sample of breath for the purposes of a preliminary breath test as well as several other road traffic offences.

“As a result she enjoyed the finer delights of our sister hotel at Omagh and this morning can explain her actions to a Judge.

“Thankfully this collision only resulted in minor damage to the other vehicles involved but what if a pedestrian was unlucky enough to have been in the area.

“The message is simple NEVER EVER DRINK AND DRIVE.

“We can’t make it any clearer!!

“If you’re at it…WISE UP!!”
