Police searched Saoradh’s Derry office last year over illegal lottery scam

DETECTIVES from the PSNI’s Terrorism Investigation Unit, investigating an illegal lottery, have conducted searches in Derry’s Creggan estate today, Wednesday, January 8.

Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Griffin said: “We carried out two searches today in the Creggan area as part of an ongoing investigation into the illegal use of a lottery in Derry/Londonderry.

“A number of mobile phones were seized for examination.”

Police believe the illegal lottery has been run by dissident republicans in the city.

A number of men were arrested last year as part of the ongoing investigation.

As part of the probe, detectives also searched the offices of Saoradh, the political wing of the New IRA, at Junior McDaid House in Chamberlain Street.
