Police seize £15,000 worth of cannabis plants in Derry

POLICE say officers recently seized £15,000 wroth of cannabis in Derry.

Members of Ballyarnett Neighbourhood Policing Team recovered the drugs during a recent search in Galliagh.

An officer writing on PSNI Foyle’s Facebook page said:

“Now, I know a post like this will always spark a debate but here’s my few points:

“1. This is clearly not a joint or a single plant for a bit of ‘personal medical use.’

“2. Where are the profits from enterprises like this going to? Many drug profits go to Organised Crime Gangs or Paramilitaries who extort dealers.

“3. I’ve had to spend hours and days going through drug dealers phones and the majority of the buyers are usually the poor, vulnerable and left behind. They are trying to scrape together £5 or £10 for the dealer who wields power and control over their lives.

“4. Lastly, it is against the Law. The Police don’t make the law.

“If you don’t like a law you have to lobby and campaign your politicians for change.”
