One of the creepy characters you can expect to catch in the Wicked Windows installation by In Your Space taking place in O’Neills Superstore, Waterloo Place, Derry

PREPARE to get the fright of your life if you walk through Waterloo Place during Derry’s iconic Halloween centrepiece, ‘Awakening the Walls’ which finishes up this evening.

Street theatre company In Your Space are up to their usual antics and anyone caught unawares while passing their ‘Wicked Windows’ installation in the O’Neills sports superstore can be guaranteed to give a blood-curdling scream or jump out of their skin when they witness the hair-raising horrors on display.

The enormous windows of O’Neills facing onto the open square make an ideal stage which the actors involved are occupying as all kinds of sinister characters.

It’s an unmissable spectacle which finishes this evening from 6 pm-8.30 pm.

Rachel Melaugh is Creative Business Manager with In Your Space and also one of its performers.

She said: “O’Neills will become ‘O’Sqeills’ as we will be setting up an exciting installation full of spook-tacular surprises.

“We are really excited because it’s such a great space and so central.

“Each year our flagship production moves around different shops and this year we’re delighted to have the chance to take over the windows within O’Neills with our Living Windows display.

“We will have a mash up of monster mayhem and devilish delights and we’ll be very aware of exactly where we are so watch out for a witch brandishing a hurling stick or other sports equipment being used not as intended!

“The ‘figures’ will take on animated or robotic form but if you’re brave enough to hang around for a while, you might just see these wicked wonders come to life with a burst of magic, music and madness!”

In Your Space’s window displays have become one of the absolute must-see attractions during any Derry celebration and, with Halloween attracting world-wide visitors, when better to showcase the stunning visual displays and where better than the natural theatre setting of O’Neills Superstore?

With all sorts of creatures of the night staring out from behind the huge panes, even the hardiest souls can expect to experience a spine-tingling shiver as performers pack a punch with their perfectly timed manoeuvres.

O’Neills Superstore is thrilled to be hosting such eerie guests.

Caroline Casey, store manager said: “With Halloween being central to Derry’s events calendar and with our Waterloo Place superstore so well placed within the city centre, our premises are ideal for the Living Windows installations so professionally produced by In Your Space.

“Our sports store has become a spooks store in the run-up to Halloween but hopefully that won’t scare away the customers!

“It’s an honour to be able to offer such a high-profile platform during the fantastic Awakening the Walls programme in all its gory glory!”

You can catch the creepiness at O’Neills Superstore, Waterloo Place, Derry this evening (Wednesday 30 October) from 6pm – 8.30pm.
