POLICE in Derry have hailed a kind-hearted femaled motorist a “hero” after helping a young boy who found himself lost in the city this evening.

The ”Good Samaritan’ woman stopped her car after seeing the young boy at the side of the road before contacting police over the incident.

An officer wrote on PSNI Foyle’s Facebook page: “Ballyarnett NPT want to say a HUGE Thank You to the woman who stopped her car on the Glengalliagh Road half an hour ago.

“I didn’t get her details but she knows who she is.

“We were stopped at Ballyarnett Roundabout helping a woman whose car had broken down.

“Suddenly another woman ran down the street towards us trying to get our attention.

“She had been driving down the Glengalliagh Road when she saw a young boy crying and upset stood by the road.

“She immediately stopped her car, ignoring the queue of traffic that began building up behind her, and went over to the boy.

“The young boy had been playing with friends on the waterside when an older boy talked him into getting a bus to Galliagh.

“The ‘friend’ subsequently left him lost, alone and far from home.

“Thanks to our Mystery Hero the young boy came to no harm and was reunited with a very grateful family.”
