Police advice for motorists over parking near schools in Derry

Police conducting school parking checkpoints in Derry this morning

POLICE in Derry are reminding drivers about ensuring the safety of children during the school runs in the morning and afternoon.

PSNI Foyle say: “In recent months, concerns have been raised about inconsiderate driving and/or how vehicles are parked close to a number of primary schools throughout the district.

“This morning, LPT2 were out conducting vehicle check points on the Coshquin Road, ensuring the safety of those who may be travelling to and from school.

Here’s some useful tips to remember for the morning/afternoon school run:

‼️ Ensure children always exit a vehicle onto the footpath and never into traffic flow.

‼️ Drive carefully past schools as pupils leave.

‼️ Do not park or obstruct the school crossing patrol, driveways, entrances, footpath or traffic flow.

‼️ Cross any road with extreme care and attention.

“Being considerate towards other road users helps to make your area safer and keep yours and our children safe.”
