‘HIA victims let down by Wesminster chaos’ – McCartney

VICTIMS and survivors of historical institutional abuse have been let down once again as a result of the ongoing chaos in the British Parliament, Sinn Féin’s Raymond McCartney has said.

Said the Foyle MLA: “Last month, the British Secretary of State gave a commitment to bring forward legislation for victims and survivors of historical institutional abuse.

“Their trauma has been compounded as a result of the pantomime which is playing out in the British Parliament and the blockage of necessary legislation.

“Time and time again, these victims and survivors have faced false dawns before being badly let down.

“There can be no more stalling for the victims and survivors of historical institutional abuse who have already suffered so much over many years.”
