The Alley Theatre
The newly established forum is welcoming anyone aged 16-24 who would like to share their ideas and learn new skills working within the theatre industry, from organising events to marketing and promotion.
Launching the new project, Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District, Councillor Michaela Boyle, said it was a great opportunity for young people to contribute to the local arts scene.
“I would really encourage any local young people with an interest in theatre or the arts to consider the benefits of taking part in this new Forum. It’s an opportunity to influence the events programme at the Alley and ensure there is plenty there to appeal to younger audiences, and to connect with other young people and share ideas.
“Council is curently delivering its Youth19 programme which is focused on promoting the interests and ambitions of our local young people. This is anther opportunity to engage and have your say.”
Members of the forum will play an active role in ensuring that the Alley Theatre programme is exciting, relevant, engaging, accessible and beneficial to the needs of young people.
Participants will also be given an opportunity to run their own events supported by the Alley Theatre and as a result will gain experience and new skills through teamwork, marketing and technical theatre – an excellent opportunity to upskill for future employment opportunities.
The New Forum will also have an opportunity to decide on a title and establish a suitable brand.
