Over 2,000 runners pound Derry streets in 2019 Waterside Half Marathon

THERE was another fantastic turnout for the Waterside Half Marathon.

Over 2,000 runners took to the streets of the Derry today for the race over the 13.1 mile course.

First across the line was Gideon Kimosop 1Zero1 Athletes in a time of 1:06:47

Second placed was Kyle Doherty from City is Derry Spartans less than two seconds later with a time of 1:08:34

And third place for the men was Declan Reed City of Derry Spartans with a time of 1:08:35.

First across the line in the ladies race was First Lady home this year again Annemarie McGlynn Letterkenny AC 1:16:58.

Three local councillors also took part to raise money for Mayor Michaela Boyle’s charities in her year of office.

Derry City and Strabane District Councillors Phillip McKinney (Alliance), Christopher Jackson (Sinn Fein) and Mary Durkan (SDLP) put aside party loyalties to one side to form a relay team in the WHM 2019.

Said Mayor Boyle: “Well done to everyone who completed the Waterside Half Marathon this morning fantastic atmosphere out on the course and at the finish in St Columb’s Park.

“Thanks and congratulations to the Councillors relay team for helping raise funds and awareness for my charities.”

Well done to everyone who took part today.
