Durkan pushes play-park for Prehen

THE SDLP’s Mark H Durkan has called for a much needed play-park for the Prehen area of the city.

He has written to the John Kelpie, Chief Executive of DCSDC calling for his support and to request a meeting to set the wheels in motion for this much needed provision.

Said the Foyle MLA: “There is an evident need and demand for a play-park within the Prehen area of the city.

“It is unacceptable that despite paying amongst the highest rates anywhere in the city, residents are left without this basic provision.

“It would mean a great deal for local residents and ratepayers to see their calls for a park finally making headway.

“This necessity will accommodate the growing number of young families in this area, providing them with somewhere to socialise and a safe play space that children can enjoy- something which is currently lacking in Prehen.

“Council must play their part in bringing forward this vital provision; including exploring current options and identifying potential sites for the construction of this play-park.

“I have requested a meeting with Chief Executive John Kelpie and the relevant officers, to further discuss what is required to get this project off the ground.

“There is a strong backing and indeed demand for a play-park within the local community; to see council taking steps to progress this campaign will no doubt be warmly welcomed by residents,” added Mr Durkan.
