Vandalism at Derrymore Park

SINN Féin Foyleside Councillor Mickey Cooper has welcomed confirmation from Apex Housing that they will be carrying out repairs to the vandalised play park at Derrymore on the Springtown Road this week.

He was speaking after the children’s play park was vandalised for the second time in less than two months.

A gate to the park was cut off its hinges in the latest incident

Councillor Cooper said: “I received a number of complaints this week about damage that has been caused to the play park in Derrymore.

“It’s hard to believe that someone has gone to the bother to cut the entrance gate off.

“Sadly this is the second time this park has been the target of vandals in less than two months.

Further vandalism to Derrymore play park this week

“I have spoken to Apex Housing and they have agreed to carry out repairs.

“Additionally I have spoken to the community safety wardens and local residents.

“They have agreed to engage with the young people who are gathering in the park at night to ensure that there is no repeat of previous incidents.”
