‘Partnership working is key to transforming Meenan Square – Mullan

SINN Féin’s Karen Mullan has urged government departments to work together with the local community and to invest in the re-development of the Meenan Square site.

The Foyle MLA was commenting after leading a high-level delegation, which included the Head of the Civil Service, Department of Justice officials and the local Council and community representatives, visited the Bogside and the Meenan Square site.

Karen Mullan said: “The Meenan Square development was recently purchased by a private developer who is working closely with the Executive Office through Urban Villages to regenerate the site.

“The delegation viewed at first hand the derelict buildings and run down surroundings alongside torn flags and painted lamp posts.

“Funding is key to revitalising this area – key to that is government departments working together with the local council and the community to transform the area.

“I will continue to prioritise this development and ensure that commitments given to people and communities that have suffered years of underinvestment and discrimination are upheld.”
